Hermes has worked in technology since the early 2000s, building software and running the infrastructure that keeps it online, and was co-founder and chief technology officer of a web and data hosting company from 2003 to 2009.

GovTech is where that career was built, with management systems for municipalities and schools that are now supported by artificial intelligence. A term as municipal secretary of Economic Development and Administration, from 2017 to 2020, added public management experience to the technical background.
